THE CONVERSATION

VOLUME VIII - ACCENTS

What do you see as your cultural path and how do you articulate it to the world?

My cultural journey is rooted in my mediterranean upbringing, which strongly influences my approach to photography. I focus on raw textures and storytelling, using fashion and visual narratives as expressions of individuality. Living in different countries has broadened my perspective, allowing me to explore a wide range of textures, colors, and styles in my work.

How do you define change, imperfection and focus? How do they define you?

Change

Change has been a significant thing in my life, shaping both me and my practice. Constantly adapting - from moving to New York to traveling frequently and facing new challenges - has made me more open to transformation. While riding the waves of change can sometimes be difficult, it feels embedded in my personality and daily living practices.

Imperfection

I view imperfectionism as a subconscious perspective on life. It plays a significant role in communication and performance. Embracing the rawness and imperfections in different aspects of life can lead to a sense of freedom, especially in photography. This acceptance can bring a lot of joy and creativity.

Focus

Focus is a big conversation in my life. To me, focus means consistency and perseverance - it’s about maintaining a long-term purpose while also being open to moments of distraction. It’s normal to have non-focus times that allow for different exploration - trying new things. It’s normal to feel exhausted or disconnected from your practice. When I struggle, I often turn to reading things I don'tknow about to entertain my mind and engage in physical activity. Moving my body especially helps me regain my focus.

What are the ‘accents’ that make your work authentic?

The ‘accents’ that make my work unique come from my journey through diverse cultures and my excitement for new perspectives. Traveling and living in different environments enriches my creativity, blending various influences into my work. Each place I visit offers new stories, textures, and ideas that shape how I see the world and inspire my artistic vision.

THE LEADER

Creative Leaders to look up to:

I admire creatives from various fields who seamlessly blend artistry with activism. Lately my thoughts have been focused on Gaza and Palestine, and I deeply respect Bisan Owda for her strength and storytelling. She embodies a powerful spirit - what a strong soul. Other artists I love and look up to are Agnès Varda, Kazuo Ishiguro, Andrzej Żuławski, and Michael Haneke. I enjoy reading and watching films, as they offer diverse perspectives from different storytellers.

# ASK

I’m hoping for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and a serious effort to address the ongoing struggles of communities of color and muslim communities especially immigrants around the world. It’s crucial to recognize the inequalities. I have faith in real action and support.
